Métiers d’Art Tribute to the Animal Kingdom Oraygami
Reference 7630A/000G-H204
Showcasing the remarkable artistry of Vacheron Constantin, the Métiers d'Art Tribute to the Animal Kingdom Oraygami 7630A/000G-H204 was unveiled in 2026. The watch features a dial that beautifully displays six miniature manta rays, each meticulously crafted through micro-origami techniques in collaboration with artist Anya Midori from Germany. The delicate creations are made from specially dyed Japanese paper and are elegantly set against a hand-guilloché dial in 18K gold, housed within a sleek 18K white gold case.
The manta rays, varying in size from approximately 5 to 10 mm, are individually folded and mounted on fine brass stems that vary in height, adding depth to the design. The folding process relies solely on manual dexterity, as no pre-existing origami patterns were available; thus, Midori devised a unique sequence by closely studying the graceful movements of genuine manta rays. The transformation of the 20-gram paper involved a custom dyeing method that altered its properties, allowing for the creation of softer contours. Beneath the rays lies a blue-coated hand-guilloché gold base, while a moiré effect on the crystal introduces an optical illusion reminiscent of light rippling through water. Time indicators for hours, minutes, day, and date are visible through four strategically placed apertures on the dial.
This project took over two years to develop, beginning with initial discussions in the summer of 2024 and concluding in 2026. Early versions of the rays demanded upwards of six hours to complete. The watch boasts a 42 mm white-gold case with a thickness of 12.9 mm, a sapphire crystal case back, and is water-resistant up to 30 meters. It is powered by Calibre 2460 G4, operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), offering a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. The intricately designed 22K gold rotor is hand-engraved with motifs that reflect the tools used by artisans. Completing the ensemble is a blue calfskin strap, embossed with a wave pattern, and an elegant 18K white-gold buckle.
